The story in the pattern
We call it Marigold Rain: small orange marks falling evenly over a pale ground, in the colour of the marigolds that are strung into garlands and offered all over Thailand.

This is a single piece of handwoven Thai silk, 2 metres long and 1 metre wide. The ground is a pale blush pink. Across it run close rows of small orange marks, each with the soft, feathered edge that only tie-dyed thread gives. One end of the cloth finishes with a wide band of orange zigzag points that fade down into plain silk, and both ends are edged in lilac. The silk is light, and the small slubs of the thread show in the weave. There is one piece only.

On the left is the real cloth for sale. On the right, the same cloth imagined as garments — each one chosen because it can really be cut from this piece. Buy the cloth for your own tailor, or ask us to make it.
